Alternative solutions

This tuesday we have been working on some other approaches to our cargo bike. In the foggy haze of millimeter measurements, multiple sketches and various ways of construction solutions we decided that it couldn't harm to try of alternative solutions.

Here is some samples:

So why not take advantage of the old and proven design of a regular bike frame and then mix it with our design of the cargo space. This would make it a lot easier to build in the rear wheel, seat post and handlebar. Making a strong connection between the two very different parts seemed like a fun challenge. And it is still without any welding!

  1. If I were to vote, I would vote for the second drawing. The construction appears simpler. Using an existing bike would be easier in that it would be less to build but, with slight variability in bicycles, it may make it tough for the home builder to adapt the plans to their bike. Besides, what about building the bike for the fun of building the bike?

  2. We've ended up not going with an existing bike frame. It had to be explored, but seemed problematic when we got to the detailing. Your favourite is certainly cleaner, but it would probably break if you but much weight on it.

  3. I have been looking into building the xyz spaceframe single.... But I stopped sourcing parts the moment I realized I didn't know how the crankbox was fully assembled with bottom bracket. Does anyone know What bottom bracket is suggested given the width is about 70mm... How does it fasten?

  4. Hi, we haven't gotten to that and are considering simply bolting a complete existing bike frame on the front loader to bypass a lot of building time. Try contacting N55. - And good luck with the project.
